Members are aware that 14th Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP) & 12th South East Asia Congress of Medical Physics (SEACOMP) are being organized between October 23rd, 2014 to October 25th, 2014 at Hotel Novotel Saigaon Centre, Ho Chi Monh City, Vietnam.

AFOMP travel awards are announced for practicing medical physicists to attend the AOCMP/SEACOMP congress in Vietnam at the end of October. Note that if your AFOMP national member organization has not paid its AFOMP subscription for the 2013 year, your members will not be eligible for an award. Members of POMP and MAMP are eligible for awards as those organizations were not required to pay a subscription for 2013. Practicing medical physicists in countries in the AFOMP region where there is no medical physics professional society may apply also.

AFOMP’s definition of a medical physicists is given in its Policy #1: A qualified Clinical Medical Physicist is a person who is qualified with a master university degree or equivalent in physical science or engineering science and working in alliance with medical staff in hospitals, universities or research institutes. In addition to his/her university degree or equivalent, a Clinical Medical Physicist shall have specialist training in the concepts and techniques of applying physics in medicine including training in the medical application of both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. This person must have a thorough knowledge in one or more sub-fields of medical physics, including radiotherapy physics, imaging physics, nuclear medicine physics and radiation protection.
